The past two days have set new records for high temperatures in the area. We had hundred degree temperatures when we lived in west Texas, but the humidity there was so low that the heat didn't bother us as much. And of course we were a bit younger back in the early 1960s. We are thankful for air conditioning and the fact that we can afford it.
We had company for supper on Tuesday evening. I baked some teacakes using the recipe that my grandmother gave me not long before she died. For years I had tried recipes labeled "teacakes" but they always turned out to be what I call sugar cookies. Finally I remembered to ask Miss Windham (that's what we kids all called our grandmother. I remember some of the best ones being baked in the oven of a wood-burning stove.
