A Reunion in Mena, Arkansas 2011

Lynda and I drove to Mena on Saturday (May 28) for a family gathering. Frances and Byron bought a place at Rich Mountain several years ago and a few years ago they moved from Texas and relocated in Mena. The house at the Rich Mountain place wasn't in any shape to be a home.

Heather and Lauri enjoy each other's company

In addition to the bunch of relatives present, there were also good friends and neighbors.

Maggie's husband, Russell, stayed in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area working, but Maggie brought there three boys. (Her sister, Mollie, helped out.)

Being Lazy

The weather has been very nice the past several days and I have be very lazy. I've spent some time installing ubuntu on computers and trying to learn more about that operating system. I've also done a little research on some history about my home town in Texas.

Flood of the Century

The Mississippi crested this morning at Memphis at something less than 48 feet. This is the highest level since the 1937 flood. The river is now three miles wide at Memphis whereas it is normally 0.3 mile wide.

A Rainy Saturday

Today has been cool and rainy. I was awakened twice during the early morning hours as thunderstorms moved through our area. There seemed to be quite a bit of rain along with the thunder and lightening. I finally got up around 7:30 and fixed some breakfast. After checking e-mail and facebook, I crawled back into bed about 9:00 and slept until after 11.

I got a lot of rest but not much else got done.

Spring

Today is a beautiful day! The weather is nice and some of the flowers are in bloom.

Our fiends, Ray and Carolyn, got back last week from their trip to the near east. They had a good trip will have several tales for us when we next see them.

Warming Up

We ended up getting about 5 inches of snow on Wednesday. The temperature got up to 40 degrees F today, but there is still a bit of snow around.

Lynda and I didn't get out until today. I drove her to Cathy's to get her hair done and the roads were o.k. with just a little ice in spots.

We watched a lot of T.V. last night and today. Our friends, Ray and Carolyn, are scheduled to fly to Israel on Feb 15th. Their plans call for visits to Jordan and Egypt. Maybe the Eqypt excursion will work out after all.

Here It Comes

I just saw the first few flakes of the new snow that we are getting today. The forecast is for us to get 1-2 inches during the winter storm. The streets and ground are clear of the last snowfall we had on Monday.

It is now 10:22 a.m. and the snow is really coming down. At this rate it shouldn't take too long for the ground to be covered since the temperature is below freezing.

I'm going to take a photo to post here.

This photo was taken at about 10:30 a.m.

This photo was taken at 1:45 p.m.
It is still snowing at 5:25 p.m.
