A Delicious Pie

I first tasted rhubarb pie on a trip to Colorado several years ago. Lynda and I were visiting in Creede along with Ray and Carolyn. Ray and Carolyn stayed with a friend of Carolyn's. The friend, Marian, had made the pie with rhubarb she grew in her garden. Lynda and I both have remembered the taste over the years.

Tonight, thanks to our friend Cherie, we were able to have another slice of rhubarb pie.

Tornado Time

The last few days have been filled with multitudes of storms. Lynda and I got out of bed at about 1: a.m. When the tornado sirens sounded. There was no damage close-by, but it was still a bit scary.

Family Time in Mena

Lynda and I attended a family gathering in Mena this weekend. Eric Petree invited us along with other relatives and friends to share food and fellowship at his cabin on Rich Moutain.

Eric's grandparents, B.G. And Frances bought a place on the mountain about thirty years ago. They were living in Irving, Texas at the time, but spent as much time as possible at the mountain place. In 2007 they bought a place in Mena and made Arkansas there permanent home.

Eric who was seven when his grandparents bought the Rich Mountain place, built a cabin nearby after he grew up.

What a Difference a Day Can Make

Several years ago I planted a female Possum Haw bush near our back driveway and for the past few years it has had a good display of red berries from let fall until late spring.




One morning last month, as I left to run a few errands, I admired the bush and wondered how long the berries would hang on.

Later that afternoon, when I went out for the local newspaper, I was surprised to see the bush completely naked of berries.





It appears that a flock of hungry birds had devoured the complete crop.

Maybe next year I'll be able to get a photo of the little creatures.

Flowers of May

I like the way spiderworts and the Jerusalem Sage go together. And I really like the fact that they have come back year after year and require little care.




These are some of my favorite irises although the yellow ones are also favorites.




The Homestead verbena is looking better this year than it did last summer.



The money plant flowers make a good showing. Later in the summer the seed pods will look like coins.




Azaleas are the most showy blossoms at this time of the year.

Lent

For the past several years, Lynda and I have attended Lenten services at the Episcopal church here in Forrest City. Each Wednesday at noon during Lent, a different minister delivers a message, different individuals or groups present special music, and we share a light meal that has been prepared by different churches. Today as I was looking through some photos I came across some from a trip a few years ago. The ones posted below were taken near Groom, Texas.
